Q: “What are the best places to visit in Sri Lanka?” A question by Piyush Mhaiskar planning his first trip to the island.

Answer:

Hi Piyush, warm greetings from I wish to Travel

Thanks for the question. You brought back my beautiful memories of Sri Lanka 😉

First thing first, Sri Lanka is like a sister country to India and very very much look a feel like India, but, different.

When you step out of Colombo airport, on your way to hotel, first thing you will feel is if you are in south of India, and not Sri Lanka!

Mild mannered, warm, very nice people all around Sri Lanka. Cheap prices for hotel, transport, food and shopping. Greenery everywhere.

For 6 days trip, you can do Colombo – Colombo to Kandy – Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and back to Colombo.

Colombo: First 2 days – Galle Face (Beach/Marina), Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple, National Museum of Colombo and other local/nearby attractions, local markets, restaurants etc.

Kandy: 3rd day (one night stay suggested).

Nuwara Eliya: 4th and 5th day (2 nights stay suggested) – Nuwara Eliya is also fondly known as Switzerland of Srilanka. This is birthplace of famous Ceylon Tea. Entire city is located on the ‘top of hills’. Yes, a city on top of hills. Plus, it has a huge lake right in the middle. Simply unbelievable. Most of Sri Lanka is beautiful but Nuwara Eliya, in my view, by far is the most beautiful.
