Visa for Austria:
As visa procedures are mostly standardized globally; information covered in this guide shall give you a fair idea about visa procedures for Austria, irrespective of where you are traveling from.
VFS Global (Austria) in UAE processes the visa for Austria, which is basically a Schengen visa for all the residents of UAE. They operate from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Visa application process consists of 4 stages, partly paper-based and partly online:
- One must download and fill the visa application form available at the VFS Global / Austria / UAE website along with the required documents ‘checklist’ for the short term visa. This is a paper-based application.
- Schedule an online appointment for the in-person submission of the application. This is a paid service costing around Aed 100.
- Visit your chosen visa application centre on the day of your appointment and submit your application form along with your passport and other required documents (Usually, a letter from the company, 2 passport pictures, 6 months bank statement, hotel and air ticket reservations, travel insurance, copies of the UAE residence permit and Emirates ID).
- Pay applicable fee (usually Aed 250) and finally choose whether you would like to collect your documents in person from the visa application centre or have it delivered to you by courier. You can track your application status online as well.
Short Term/Tourist visas are usually issued for 6 months. Consulate will issue a Schengen visa which will entitle you to enter all Schengen states, however in this case; your first point of entry or longest stay must be in Austria.

Visas are generally processed and issued in 15 working days however it can take longer depending on season and special cases. It is highly recommended that you apply with sufficient time in hand. Application center does offer a ‘premium’ service at extra fee, which allows you to choose an early appointment date.
There are no defined criteria on how much money you should have in your bank account in order to apply for the visa but as long as your financial statements indicates that you are comfortable enough to travel and take care of yourself in case of any medical or other contingencies then you are good to go.
In comparison with other European cities, Vienna flights are comparatively cheap. Quite a few airline options with tickets costing between Aed 2000-2500 for direct fights departing from Dubai or Abu Dhabi and between Aed 1550-2450 with 1 stop-over.
